Drubpon Lama Tenzin Sangpo

Born in the Tingri region of Tibet in 1967, after journeying to Nepal in 1976 Drubpon Lama Tenzin Sangpo received ordination and began his monastic education at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery. He particularly excelled in the elaborate ritual arts pertaining to both the Kagyu and Nyingma Schools of Tibetan Buddhism. With his deep melodious singing voice, he became the monastery’s principal umdze or ‘Chant Master’ leading the monastic assembly in the complex pujas regularly performed in the temple. In 2005, Drubpon Lama Tenzin completed a rigorous traditional 3-year intensive Buddhist meditation retreat at our Asura Cave Retreat Centre in Pharping, Nepal. He returned to his position as umdze with a deeper understanding of the sacred rituals.
Noticing Drubpon Lama Tenzin’s congeniality with Westerners, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche dispatched him to guide Western Buddhists at our Dharma Centres in both Europe and Southeast Asia. For 16 years, he served as ‘Resident Lama’ at Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Germany-Austria before being assigned by Rinpoche to settle at secluded Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Pyrenees in France. There, Drubpon Lama Tenzin serves as drubpon, or ‘retreat master,’ most currently guiding Westerners in their three-year retreat. He also leads three-month retreats annually and visits other Gomde centers worldwide. Furthermore, he has recorded a number of popular DVDs of Buddhist chants available in the marketplace.
